MTV revealed who will be filling Carson Daly's shoes on the new "TRL"
When you think of TRL, you may have some fond memories stored. It’s probably where you were first introduced to Britney Spears, for one. But while Carson Daly is the host you remember most fondly, MTV announced the new TRL hosts for the reboot that’s expected to air soon. Let’s just say that it looks like it’ll be taking more than one person to fill the shoes that Daly left behind.
TRL closed its doors (or, giant windows that looked down on pop’s biggest fans) back in 2008, so this revival will launch after nearly a decade of being off the air. To start off strong, the network announced there’ll be five hosts taking turns when the show relaunches.
You might not know of them now, but pretty soon Amy Pham, Erik Zachary, D.C. Young Fly, Tamara Dhia, and Lawrence Jackson will become household names.
Here’s a little bit about each host, in case you want to familiarize yourself ahead of time.
First, let’s talk about Amy Pham. She’s a DJ with a YouTube channel, and a solid amount of social media followers.
As for Erik Zachary, those who listen to iHeartMedia’s 103.5 KISS FM might recognize him. He’s already been sharing snaps about what’s happening behind the scenes at TRL for those who may be curious.
D.C. Young Fly is a rapper and actor who already has a little bit of MTV experience. The 25-year-old has appeared on a few episodes of Wild ‘n Out. He’s buddies with Karlous Miller, who appeared on Last Comic Standing a few years back.
Tamara Dhia is an actress who’s been in a few shows, notably The Coasters which aired back in 2013.
And finally, Lawrence Jackson is an entertainment journalist who, along with D.C. Young Fly, got to make the official announcement regarding the revival.
We think this team is going to do an incredible job, and can’t wait to see them shine! TRL is expected to start airing on October 2nd.
