"MST3K" roasted "Stranger Things," and it may make you rethink your love for Hopper
The original Mystery Science Theater 3000 aired for 11 seasons from 1988 to 1999. The 2017 reboot of the show officially premiered on Netflix on Friday night, and it’s everything we could have hoped for. In a promo for the show’s premiere, Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return crew completely tears into Stranger Things, and it’s pretty amazing. Even though we still have the same feelings of adoration for our beloved Stranger Things, we can still laugh at its expense.
Because the points brought up on MST3K definitely aren’t untrue.
Jonah Ray is the new host of the show, and he and his robots sit down to watch the first episode of Stranger Things. And right off the bat, they hit us with the hilarity. When the title “Chapter One: The Vanishing of Will Byers” appears on the screen, one of the robots announces:
Then they enter the “gray-ish, brown-ish world of the ’80s,” which is the most accurate description of the setting we’ve ever heard. And based on the messy living room, one of the guys admits:
But the absolute best part?
When Ray and the robots refer to Jim Hopper, aka David Harbour, as a “mashed potato sculpture.” Harbour took to Twitter to express his delight about his shout out.
We won’t spoil anything else. Check out the promo for yourself:
