In case you missed it, Hulu released a new trailer for The Handmaid’s Tale just in time for yesterday’s International Women’s Day. If you happen to be unfamiliar with the new series, it’s definitely a show that focuses on the struggle that a group of women face.

The show is based on the novel of the same title by Margaret Atwood. While somewhat scary, it’s quite the important story to see. Atwood is such a believer that she’s actually the executive producer of the series that’ll be launching on Hulu.

Focusing around the topics of religious politics and gender, both the book and the upcoming series rely on the character of Offred to tell the harrowing story of her attempts to end the incredible oppression that she and her fellow women are exposed to on a daily basis.

So, yes. It’s not going to be a light show, but it’s going to be an important show. Here’s what was released yesterday:

The trailer shows a bunch of panic-related scenes, set to an eerie (yet beautiful) rendition of “Amazing Grace.” Some scenes look like they’re cut from a women’s rally, which is definitely interesting.

Written in the midst of the 1980’s The Handmaid’s Tale was said to take place in the “not so distant future” — so, scenes like this are even more relatable.

We have a feeling that this scary tale is going to empower us even more.

Luckily, we don’t have to wait much longer. The series, which features talented ladies like Elisabeth Moss, Alexis Bledel, and Samira Wiley, debuts on April 26th.
