Colin O’Donoghue had a lot of kind words for his Once Upon a Time character Captain Hook at Comic-Con’s Brave New Warriors Panel, which also featured David Harbour (Stranger Things), Christopher Meloni (Happy!), Richard Rankin (Outlander), Rodrigo Santoro (Westworld), and Ricky Whittle (American Gods).

During the panel, O’Donoghue addressed why he loves his onscreen counterpart.

Then, he got a little cheeky: “I’ve been very lucky to do that and it’s been great, obviously, to wear eyeliner and leather pants.”

Just, all the eyeliner.

The actor also discussed his appreciation for the fans, and then told a story about a role that, in contrast, he did also love — but was somewhat embarrassing. As part of a play he did in Ireland, he had to strip down to his “tighty whities,” which he wasn’t exactly a fan of. Even worse, at one particular show, his mother was sitting front and center as he took off his clothes.

*YIKES*

But, O’Donoghue laughed that off with the crowd, and was in good spirits as he reminisced on the awkward moment. The same went for another story he told about an awkward fan encounter in which a fan approached him *thinking* he looks like “the guy who plays Captain Hook.”

He didn’t say anything, but then felt guilty and told the fan that he is, in fact, Captain Hook. She responded, very seriously, “No You’re not.”

Welp, not too much more he could’ve done in that case!

As for when you can next see Captain Hook (in all his eyeliner glory), Once Upon a Time will return to ABC with Season 7 on October 6th.
