Get your blazers out: A "Heathers" TV show is coming!
No, you didn’t have a brain tumor for breakfast. You read that right. The iconic 1988 film, Heathers is becoming a TV show.
TV Land just announced it would order a Heathers-based “Anthology” to series.
Lick it up, baby. Lick it up.
But the reboot is not all croquet mallets and shoulder pads.
The series will be a modern re-imagining of the Winona Ryder classic, featuring a brand new set of mean girls, ripe for 2016.
Heather McNamara (played by Lisanne Falk in the movie), will be played by an African American lesbian. Shannen Doherty’s character, Heather Duke, will be played by a man named Heath, who identifies as gender-queer.
The pilot will be directed by Leslye Headland, who wrote and directed both the play and film Bachelorette, as well as the adorable rom-com Sleeping With Other People. TBH, Leslye Headland is a total BOSS, so you know Heathers will be in good hands.
Previously, a Heathers reboot was attempted at Bravo and Fox, but neither made it to air. Now with a series order, things seem a lot more promising. No word yet on whether Christian Slater or Winona Ryder will make guest appearances (and make our dreams come true) but we can only hope!
