For some reason, this week's "Game of Thrones" will be the shortest episode of the series ever
Though it’s not fun to talk about, we have to talk about the fact that there are only nine episodes of Game of Thrones left, ever. Ever! We’re only going to head back to Westeros nine more times before we have to bid adieu to Dany, Jon, Cersei, Arya, Sansa, Sam’s chores at the Citadel…everything. Needless to say, we want as much Game of Thrones as possible, which is why it’s kinda shocking to learn that this week’s episode, “The Spoil’s of War,” will be the shortest episode the series has ever aired.
TBH, this seems cruel and unusual.
Most television dramas clock in between 42 and 45 minutes, because of commercials. But since this is HBO, Game of Thrones episodes usually last anywhere between 52-ish and 58-ish minutes, which is nice. Last week’s episode, “The Queen’s Justice,” clocked in at roughly 63 minutes.
As for “The Spoils of War,” it’s only going to be 50. Wow, rude.
That means we’re being deprived of, like, at least 5 minutes of solid dragon drama. That means, we’re getting roughly five minutes less of Dany commanding things. Five minutes less of Jon Snow pretending that he didn’t die and come back to life. Five less minutes of Arya plotting to kill people. We always knew Game of Thrones would hurt us, but we never expected like *this.*
However, we were warned that this short episode was coming. Before the season even began, showrunner David Benioff told us this was coming: “One [episode] will be our longest episode ever — it’s coming in around 90 minutes,” He explained to Entertainment Weekly. “Another is going to be our shortest episode at 50 minutes.”
Well, at least we still have the longest episode to look forward to. I guess you can go and like, make plans Sunday night since it looks like you’ve got some extra time?
