Last night’s Season 7 premiere of Game of Thrones saw the return of *almost* all your faves, and it sure looks like we’re in for a wild season. If you haven’t caught the seventh season premiere “Dragonstone” yet, you might want to turn back for Essos because this post contains serious Game of Thrones spoilers.
When we last saw Ser Jorah Mormont midway through Season 6, the former advisor to Daenerys Targaryen was on a mission to cure himself of Greyscale. You know, the deadly disease he contracted while trying to redeem himself after being banished for spying on Dany at Varys’ behest back in Season 1.
But last night, we got a surprise glimpse at Jorah — or his arm, that is — and safe to say his search for a cure isn’t going well:
We see Jorah in Oldtown at the Citadel, where Samwell Tarly is studying to become a maester. Jorah is being quarantined in what we imagine to be some sort of Citadel sick bay and the two have a run-in of sorts. While we only got a brief glance at his arm, it appears Jorah’s Greyscale is only getting worse, a sentiment Iain Glen, who plays Jorah, very much agrees with.
Remember, this is how his Greyscale looked just last season:
So, the disease is progressing very rapidly.
But for someone who may be well on his way toward death, Jorah is still anxiously awaiting the arrival of his queen, as demonstrated by the surprising conversation between him and a confused Sam.
According to Glen, Jorah’s optimism about recovering is rooted in his love for Dany and her instructions for him to find a cure.
We have a feeling that Sam may be an important key to Jorah’s potential recovery as Game of Thrones progresses, seeing how he’s already doing some serious Dragonglass research.
