Did this "Game of Thrones" joke on "OITNB" foreshadow what happened to Poussey?
Have you finished binging this season of Orange is the New Black?
Are you up to date on Game of Thrones?
Awesome. You may proceed. BECAUSE THERE ARE SPOILERS FOR BOTH.
This season of OTINB featured one of the show’s biggest OMG moments. In the penultimate episode fan-favorite and beloved-by-all Poussey Washington dies after the inmates stage a peaceful protest in the cafeteria, and the only way to describe it is…OMG. You might still be crying over it, and that’s totally okay. It’s heartbreaking and tragic.
Her death also might have been foreshadowed earlier in the season…with a Game of Thrones joke. Yeah. Think back to Episode 3, “(Don’t) Say Anything.” Taystee and Poussey are discussing Game of Thrones, because everyone is a Game of Thrones fan, and Taystee makes a joke about how since her and Warden Caputo are now tight, she’s the new “Hand of the Warden.”
That’s when Poussey returns the joke with, “the Hand always die in them books.”
But it’s not Taystee who dies, it’s Poussey. But Poussey isn’t the “Hand of the Warden.”
…But Poussey is a hand of the King. She’s Judy King’s assistant during her prison cooking classes.
That makes Poussey Judy King’s hand, and Possey becomes the Hand of the King and OMG.
Was this foreshadowing intentional? Is it just a freak coincidence that the Game of Thrones joke lines up with the events at the end of the season? IS ANYONE SAFE on either OITNB or Game of Thrones??
