The fantasy and fantastical worlds of Game of Thrones and Harry Potter have certainly crossed paths before but never quite like this. In the Season 7 premiere, we learned that Sam is having a really shitty time hanging out at the Citadel, and all he wants to do is read some books! Specifically, some books in the restricted section! However, he’s not allowed in, yet, and the person keeping him out is a very familiar face.

Jim Broadbent, who played Professor Slughorn in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows (and was very selective with his Slug Club invites), appears in “Dragonstone” as Archmaester Ebrose — aka, the guy giving that dude an autopsy.

Good news is that this isn’t a one-and-done Game of Thrones appearance, as Broadbent is coming back for more. The bad news, for Sam, is that it appears he still cannot read the books he wants to read.

For all we know, this picture could be from the off-limits section of the Citadel library, but probably not. It was made very clear to Sam (and to us) that he was not allowed to go in there. That, of course, didn’t stop Sam from going inside anyway, just like it didn’t stop Harry, Hermione, and Ron, either.

However, Sam did it without the use of magic and/or an invisibility cloak. So, +10 points to House Tarly.

We’ll find out if Sam ever gets his hands on these coveted books on Sunday.
