Since Game of Thrones first flashed across our TV screens, we’ve always felt a connection with none other than the strong-willed Daenerys Targaryen. I mean – SPOILER ALERT – who could forget her most recent nude scene when she freed herself from captivation in a burst of fire and empowerment? We essentially feel like the Mother of Dragons will never die (well, at least not yet) and Emilia Clarke has similar thoughts on the matter.
When discussing her role in the film Me Before You, Emilia assured us all that she’s not ready to leave Game of Thrones for the big screen. “I don’t feel ready to leave Game of Thrones behind,” Clarke told The Sun. “We’ve still got seasons coming up.” Thank the old gods and the new!
“I’m not ready – they ain’t killing me yet. I’ve got dragons and nobody’s stealing my fire,” stated Emilia, when referring to her beloved character. “It never feels like a job either. Daenerys changes every single season. It’s impossible for her to feel like a job.” Not only is Khaleesi living her best life – it seems that Miss Emilia Clarke is as well.
Specifically, when discussing her recent nude scene, Emilia talked about why she loves her character and felt compelled to once again embrace her body at this point in the series. “It was just a wonderful, strong moment I wanted to own, a real empowering, girl-power wow scene,” explained Clarke. “I was so thrilled with it. It’s not a sexy scene, she’s not naked for no reason, it’s not gratuitous. She’s naked because she’s just destroyed her enemies in this almighty blaze after they underestimated her.” (It’s safe to say that no one will be underestimating the Mother of Dragons anymore.)
Overall, Emilia beautifully concluded, “I think the days of Daenerys relying on a big strong man are over.” Now, we truly hope Khaleesi remains alive for many seasons to come.
