Drew Barrymore recently lost 20 pounds. We think she always looks great, but the inspo behind her loss is totes silly. She dropped the poundage to become a zombie for The Santa Clarita Diet.
Actually, though, the context is that she connected deeply with her character, which helped her break out of a personal rut she had fallen in.
Inspiration comes in the least likely places.
While promoting her new Netflix show with co-star Timothy Olyphant on The Today Show on Friday morning, the actress, director, and business woman credited her character Sheila in the show, who becomes a zombie after she dies, as the driving force behind her transformation.
“It came in the middle of this moment in my life where I had let myself go due to personal circumstances,” Barrymore said.“And I thought I could come alive with Sheila. It was a really great goal line for me, because as much as the weight loss, everything’s very subtle — it’s attitudinal, it’s empowerment, it’s confidence.”
The recently divorced mother of two is no stranger to loss, and we’re not talking weight loss. The character of Sheila helped her come to terms with some of her recent struggles.
“It’s all of these things that she’s lost in her life — and I felt I had sort of lost in my life — and it was such a blessing to come alive with her, and it really was so positive for me,” Drew said.
We are feeling this, hard. We also love the irony that playing a dead person helped her come ~alive~.
