Another day, another new Netflix original. Everyone’s favorite streaming giant has been consistently pumping out binge-able shows (not that we’re complaining), and this time around, it’s an explosive new sci-fi series that’s like The Matrix and Blade Runner meshed together.
Say what now?!
Altered Carbon, based on the cyberpunk novel of the same name, is set 300 years in the future, when humans can transfer consciousness from one body to another, making them “immortal.” It’s centered around a soldier named Takeshi Kovacs, who has been brought back to life after 250 years and given the mission to solve the murder of a wealthy man, Laurens Bancroft. If Kovacs fails to resolve it fast enough, he might be “erased.”
Here is Netflix’s official synopsis:
I don’t know about you, but I’m more than ready to immerse myself in this wild, futuristic world. The trailer shows much promise, filled with tons of action, fancy guns, and flying cars. See it for yourself:
According to EW, the show is spearheaded by Laeta Kalogridis, writer-producer responsible for classics like Alita: Battle Angel and Shutter Island. And the pilot episode is shot by no other than Emmy-winning director Miguel Sapochnik, who is famous for directing the “Battle of the Bastards” episode of Game of Thrones.
If the minds behind the series are any indication of what it’s actually going to be like, then we already know that it’s going to be all sorts of epic.
Altered Carbon will be released globally on February 2, so mark your calendars, stock up on snacks, and get ready for days of solid binge-watching.
