In the last few years there’s been a flurry of artists that identify as LGBTQ+ and we have to say we totally love it. From new comers like Halsey to Troye Sivan, and even established acts like Miley Cyrus, it’s amazing to see so many successful people speaking honestly about their lives.
Now in a recent interview Troye Sivan has spoken about how Miley Cyrus helped him deal with his sexuality when he was 13 and it’s the sweetest thing ever.
When asked about which out LGBTQ+ celebrity or entertainer had an impact on him most, Troye told Buzzfeed that it was Cyrus.
“The first one that actually mattered to me who has since come out as not straight is Miley Cyrus,” he said to Buzzfeed. “I remember when I was, like, 13 and watching Hannah Montana I thought she was the coolest person in the world.
Continuing, Troye went on to explain that it was Miley’s song “My Heart Beats for Love,” which was written for her gay best friend, that really helped him.
“I was like, ‘Oh my God, Miley Cyrus has a gay best friend. Why am I not that person?'” he said.
“I was like, if everyone in the world rejects me,” he continued, “I can just go and be friends with Miley Cyrus.”
It’s so amazing to see an artist like Troye, who is helping loads of young LGBTQ+ people, also speak about those moments that helped him.
Continuing the love-in, Miley Cyrus responded to Troye’s declarations on Instagram and it’s just adorable.
“thank you for being brave Mistaaaa @troyesivan ❤️💙💜💛💚,” Miley wrote. ” inspired by your beautiful words to continue my work / purpose @happyhippiefdn”
Of course Miley is referring to The Happy Hippie Foundation, the nonprofit organization that she started to fight homelessness among youth, LGBTQ+ youth, and other vulnerable people.
We’re so glad that we live in a time where artists like Miley Cyrus and Troye Sivan can express themselves fully and inspire a generation of young people to be themselves and live their truths.
Also, we NEED Troye and Miley to be BFFs. We can just picture the cute AF Instagram posts already…
