The Meddler is a movie about a meddling mother, Marnie (played by Susan Sarandon), who moves to Los Angeles to be closer to her daughter Lori (played by Rose Byrne). Lori is a successful screenwriter, but is also single, which seems to be a problem that Marnie is trying to solve (and also much of where the aforementioned meddling comes in).

Doing some sleuthing via our exclusive pix, Marnie can be seen meddling in not just Lori’s life but also the lives of Lori’s friends — including a friend played by none other than Cecily Strong!

Marnie does some hardcore Lori-friend-wedding-meddling and tags along to Cecily Strong’s dress fitting, even offering to pay for the dress, as we learn in the trailer.

According to more exclusive pic sleuthing, it appears that Cecily Strong’s character makes Marnie a part of the wedding party. If we know anything about moms, they often have a lot to say at weddings  — for better or for worse. We anxiously await to see how this wedding scene will play out, but for now, here are some stills:

And wait, did we mention that J.K. Simmons is in the movie? We don’t have the name of his character yet (though IMDB tells us it’s Zipper?), but by the looks of it, he plays a motorcycle-riding police officer with a nice ‘stache and a positive attitude.

He and Marnie look pretty happy together, so it’s probably safe to say Simmons plays her love interest in the film, or at the very least, a pretty close friend.

Lori (Rose Byrne) takes off pretty early in the trailer to New York for a trip, so it seems she is pretty successful at avoiding Marnie’s attempts to meddle with her life. However, Marnie later shows up at her hotel in the Big Apple — how, we don’t quite know. We’ll just have to wait for the movie’s release on April 22 to find out! In the meantime, you can watch the trailer here. Oh we are excited for The Meddler. Very excited indeed.
