Taylor Swift's new Spotify playlist offers us a peek into cuffing season
With cuffing season upon us, does a Taylor Swift and Spotify rekindling sound like a love story? In a no-frills, posted-without-commentary tweet on Friday, Swift shared a link to a Spotify playlist and invited us into her world of music.
After a close listen, the selections are not so much surprising as the revitalization of a Taylor Swift x Spotify collab. Especially after their tense relationship. Back in 2014, Swift penned in an op-ed for The Wall Street Journal stating that she believes artists should be paid for their music. She also removed all of her content from Spotify, reminding us that she’s the boss. Ouch.
Nevertheless, Swift’s music returned to Spotify back in June.
And on Friday, she curated a 69-song playlist titled “Songs Taylor Loves.”
It offers a deep peek into the soul of an indie-pop princess. You can literally taste the cotton candy clouds and warm skies that the almost 5-hour-long playlist evokes.
Other indie-pop royalties, such as Banks, Charli XCX, Lady Gaga, and Ariana Grande all made the cut. Kendrick Lamar, Swift’s “Bad Blood” collaborator, was the only selectee to make it from the world of hip-hop, and irrevocably, Childish Gambino’s “Redbone.” But no other rap songs were included.
Taylor’s love for country music was indeed embedded into the selections, with Maren Morris and Brett Young gracing the playlist scene. As we get deeper into the room of Taylor’s music, we see the grazing of innocence and cookie-cutter goodness, until the queen of nipple rings herself enters.
Rihanna’s “Kiss It Better” is a nice popped cherry on the sundae.
In the (surprising) rekindling of Spotify and Swift, we are able to get a peek into the music mind of the artist; though none of it is deviant from the obvious, it’s still a great playlist to vibe out to during these colder winds of cuffing season.
