By now, you’ve more than likely heard of the Harry Potter website, Pottermore — let’s be honest, by now you’re probably already a Pottermore devotee. For those not yet up to speed on the magic that is the website, it’s basically a giant interactive and expansive Harry Potter retelling that’s run by our fearless leader J.K. Rowling. The site is filled with nooks and crannies, which unlock in-depth content and things you never knew before about the HP universe. Seriously, you could settle in for hours. Go on and join if you haven’t already. Bonus, as soon as you join, you’re sorted into a Hogwarts house, per the Sorting Hat.
I’m sure you’ve already taken countless different, “Which Hogwarts House Are You??” quizzes across the Internet, but the one on Pottermore comes with Rowling’s blessing. And if we’re going to believe anyone about our Hogwarts’ house, it better be Rowling.
Well, turns out a known Slytherin recently joined Pottermore, and got sorted into a house he wasn’t expecting.
Tom Felton, also known by day as bad boy Draco Malfoy, joined Pottermore, and was promptly sorted into — wait for it — Gryffindor. That’s not what he was expecting at all, and he took to Twitter to voice his concern/sadness. I guess once a Slytherin, always a Slytherin.
Twitter maverick, Rowling herself, quickly gave Tom her condolences, and then offered up a twist we didn’t see coming:
So while Draco might always be considered a shade of evil, Rowling knows Tom’s got a brave heart. Considering what a fine young gentleman Tom has grown into since he was first sorted all those years ago — and even how much Draco developed over the course of the books — we will be siding with Rowling on this one. She’s in charge, after all.
Cheer up, Tom. Lions are way cooler than snakes anyway.
