Grab the tissues: Sia's version of "Like A River Runs" has us welling up
Welp, so much for having an elastic heart.
Sia has us reaching for the tissues with her cover of the tune “Like a River Runs,” a track off Jack Antonoff’s new, live Bleachers EP.
The new EP, titled Like A River Runs, is an ode to the title track, which was first released as a single from Antonoff’s Strange Desire album. The EP features a new version, a live version and, of course, Sia’s cover version of the title track. Did we fail to mention? In addition to the three versions of the song, the EP also features a 15 minute conversation with a dream specialist.
The song, which was written by Antonoff, centers around the torment of a losing a loved one, which manifests into recurring dreams. “It’s a really sad song,” Antonoff told Entertainment Weekly.
“I wanted it to be a song that if you put it on with a bunch of people, you could be like, ‘Oh, this song feels so good,’ with that beat and the melody and all that stuff. But if you lay in bed at home alone, you could listen to the lyrics and they’re all about loss and trying to move on without becoming too complicated a person.”
Unlike Bleachers’ thumping, upbeat version of “Like A River Runs,” Sia’s cover is strewn with piano keys and howling vocals, which only add to the beauty of this already painful tune.
You can listen to the track below. If you start getting all teary-eyed, don’t say we didn’t warn you!
