Many Bothans died to bring us the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer, but now it’s finally upon us after premiering this morning on Good Morning America. Rogue One stars Felicity Jones and depicts the adventures of rebels as they set out to steal the plans for the Death Star.
Little else is known about Rogue One, which comes to theaters December 16th, 2016. The epic spinoff is directed by Gareth Edwards and written by a dream team of George Lucas, John Knoll, Chris Weitz, and Gary Witta, and takes place just before the events of the original series, according to The Verge.
Most of what we know about Rogue One is whatever we were able to glean from the trailer. From the looks of it, the story centers on Felicity Jones, a rebel accused of being “reckless, aggressive, and undisciplined.” We like her already.
“We have a mission for you,” Mon Mothma says. “A major weapons test is imminent. We need to know what it is and how to destroy it.”
From that point forward, it’s all action. We get glimpses of other characters and of the dangers that are ahead for our protagonist, but mostly? We see her kicking butt.
We know this is the beginning of a very, very long wait for Rogue One to be in theaters, but after such an awesome trailer, we might just make it through. That is, as long as there are ample teasers, sneak peaks, and interviews to keep us going along the way.
