Sterling K. Brown, Olivia Munn, and Jacob Tremblay filming "Predator" together is somehow exactly what we needed today
Today in “things that are making us giddy”: director Shane Black (Iron Man 3, The Nice Guy) just debuted the first official photo from The Predator, and Sterling K. Brown joining his brilliant collection of
predator bait actors is essentially the best movie news we’ve seen since, well, a few days ago when we found out that Donald Glover would be playing Simba.
This Is Us star Brown, Moonlight star Trevante Rhodes, someone called “Boyd Holbrook” (whom Wikipedia tells us is Elizabeth Olsen’s ex-fiancé), Jacob Tremblay, Olivia Munn, and Keegan Michael Key make up the starring cast of Black’s 2018 remake, which begins filming today and sounds really, really freaking awesome.
From the looks of the first photo, everyone is playing some sort of military character except for Brown — whose character looks like he just returned from a tech conference in San Francisco — and Tremblay, who looks like a child.
As Black says, this is just the “partial” cast, so we’re choosing not to be mad that Munn is the only woman in the bunch. (Though she’s also the only woman on the IMDB page which is…more troubling.)
Predators have hunted humans everywhere from the Central American jungle to 1990s Los Angeles in past films, but this time around, The Hollywood Reporter claims that the beasts will hunt their human trophies in suburbia. Munn will reportedly play a scientist, with Holbrook playing a Special Forces commando and Rhodes and Key rounding up the core cast as ex-marines.
Tremblay is playing Holbrook’s character’s son, which you probably could have guessed since you have eyes. And in case you were wondering, his will absolutely be the Instagram account to follow if you want behind-the-scenes updates from set, or even just a daily dose of adorable.
We don’t know who Brown is playing in The Predator yet, as his participation in the project was literally just confirmed today. All we know is that between The Predator, This Is Us, and Marvel’s Black Panther, dude has a busy and prosperous year ahead of him.
The Predator will hit theaters on February 9th, 2018. We’ll be there opening day, and until then, obsessively following Black/Brown/Munn/Tremblay and co. for 24/7 updates from Predator-infested suburbia.
