I’m STILL recovering from Outlander’s dark season one finale which aired a whole three weeks ago. So, of course, I’m already getting antsy, eagerly anticipating season two’s premiere. Except “Eagerly anticipating” might not fully express the feels I’m feeling for this show. I’m ecstatically anticipating? Enthusiastically anticipating? Whichever qualifier, you get the point —and I know that I’m not alone here. By the end of season one, Outlander had racked up an enormous following —from loyal lovers of the book to people who solely obsess over the TV series.

Of course, there is no rest for the Outlander clan. They started shooting season two before season one’s finale even aired. Luckily, TV Line, E!, and Zap2it got the 411 from executive producer, Ronald D. Moore, so we have something to hold on to during the upcoming and second plague know as Droughtlander. Here are some things every Outlander fan needs to know:

Goodbye Scotland, Hello Paris!

All of season one was set in the highlands and honestly, it was one of the show’s elements I was so taken with. However, season two (following Diana’s books) will find Jamie and Claire navigating 1700s Paris. That means our leads are going to find themselves speaking a different language this season. As per TV Line‘s interview with Moore, we found out that “Caitriona definitely does [speak French], because she spent quite a bit of time in Paris, and Sam is learning French. I just heard him at the table read the other day, and I was pretty surprised. He did quite well.” Jamie with a Scottish accent speaking French? Um. Yes.

Get Ready for a Structure Shift.

While season one followed book one pretty closely, season two’s structure is going to be a little different. According to Moore in TV Line, “Diana [Gabaldon] shifted points of view, herself, in Book 2. So that alone just makes it a more complicated task to make the adaptation. So, yeah, we’re still struggling with the same things, with trying to be as true to the book as we possibly can while making it a television series. We always just try to do our best.” With Moore and co-executive producer, Maril Davis at its helm, I have no doubts about season two’s storyline.

Jamie and Claire are going to get old.

Well, older. This isn’t news for any Outlander book fans, but if you’ve never read a thing about book 2, you should know that Jamie and Claire are both going to age…a lot. Book 2 picks up with Claire in the 1960s when she’s raising Jamie’s teenage daughter and trying to figure out how to get back to the past. Eek! Said Balfe in an interview with Zap2it, “I think it’ll be fun. I think it’s great to be able to play someone’s life,” Balfe told Zap2It. “So often it’s all chronological and you play the one age. Now I get to play a woman who [spoiler alert!] has a child who’s in her late teens who’s gone through this whole life of experience.” We can only hope Sam Heughan, Jamie’s portrayer, feels the same!

Claire’s 40s husband, Frank, is Back!

Black Jack may be gone, but Frank is still alive and well. Said Moore in his interview with E!, “I love having Tobias on the show. I love having the character of Frank. I think having her keep touch with the 20th Century life she had was really important to the show.” I mean, who doesn’t want to see Claire’s two husbands have a literal face-off?

There are going be new faces galore! Yay!

Claire and Jamie’s daughter, Jamie’s ex, the new baddie….There are going to be a lot of new characters joining the Outlander world. Some are cast, some are not. Below are some faces to look for.

1. Jamie’s Ex – Annalise de Marillac

French Actress Marguax Chatelier will be joining the cast as Annalise de Marillac. Oooh. I smell tension. Also, how gorgeous is she?

2. Black Jack’s Brother – Alex

Laurence Dobiesz will be stepping into the role of Alex, Black Jack’s brother — but don’t worry. He’s actually a sane, nice person. He meets Claire and Jamie in Scotland. Annnnd he’s not so bad on the eyes.

3. The new French Baddie – Le Compte St. Germain

Stanley Weber is the new (hot??) baddie joining season two. Per E!, he’s described as “A wine merchant and member of the French Court, who has a reputation for ruthlessness, as well as for dabbling in the occult.” Hmmm. I’m still staring at his photo.

4. Jamie’s Cousin – Jared Fraser

No, that’s not a misprint. The Fraser family is adding another member. His portrayer’s name is Robert Cavanagh and according to E!, “Claire and Jamie will meet Jared in France and live in his mansion while they attempt to change history. He’s a wealthy and successful wine merchant, as well as a strong supporter of the exact uprising that Jamie and Claire are trying to prevent.” I’m always down to meet another in the Fraser clan.

Diana Gabaldon likes season 2 thus far. This is a good sign.

According to Zap2it, Diana feels like season 2 is looking good. She says, “The Parisian stuff is very good, and in fact I’m deeply impressed by the outlines I’ve seen of those scripts. I think they’ve done a wonderful job of pulling out the most important plot elements and arranging them in a convincing way.” Diana likes it. ‘Nuff said.

Season 2 doesn’t start until 2016. WAH.

Starz hasn’t set a premiere date for season 2, but it’s looking to be a long, cold droughtlander. Good luck to you, my friends. I’ll see you on the other side. I’m probably going to be re-watching season one on loop.
