Once Upon a Time is finally coming back into our lives, and we can’t wait because it’s been a long, Storybrooke-less summer. While last season we were introduced to Frozen‘s Elsa and Anna, along with the Snow Queen, Ursula, Cruella De Vil, and Dark Emma, Season 5 will also have some cool stuff to look forward to. Like Mulan’s possible return, for starters.

Wanting to know more about one of our fave badass heroines, EW asked OUAT‘s show creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz what’s going to happen with Mulan this time around —and particularly if she and Aurora stand a chance.

“We know that [the] community [has] been big supporters of the show and we would love to be able to tell a love story that reflects that,” Kitsis told EW.

“We want the show to reflect the world as it is now. Whether that’s going to be with any particular character, we’re not going to say,” Horowitz added. “But it’s something that we’re going to do this year,” Kitsis made clear.

So, while we’re not totally sure whether this information means Mulan and Aurora are going to end up together (pleasepleaseplease), we do know that OUAT‘s show runners want to explore an LGBTQ+ relationship —something that hasn’t been done yet (aside from Mulan’s ambiguous feelings toward Aurora) on the show. Or television as a whole.

According to GLAAD’s 2014 TV report, only 32 out of 813 series regulars are LGBTQ+ characters. That’s not quite 5 percent. Although television has been making more and more progress as far as LGBTQ+ inclusivity goes, we’ve still got a ways to go.

But introducing more LGBTQ+ characters and relationships to Once Upon a Time‘s narrative is definitely a great start. And Horowitz is right —it’s time fictional worlds represent and reflect the world.

We hope everyone has their schedules clear on September 27th. Once Upon a Time is about to take over our lives and our hearts AGAIN —and that’s totally fine by us.
