Last weekend, President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin met on the sidelines of the G20 summit in order to discuss “the need for a Syrian-led and Syrian-owned political transition,” NBC reports. The meeting reportedly lasted over half an hour and, aside from the company of two aides, was kept as private as possible.

It goes without saying that the information exchanged in the meeting was highly classified, and one can only imagine the specifics of their discussion. In a video of the summit released by state-supported broadcaster Russia Today, however, it looks like one man’s curiosity got the best of him — with some surprisingly hilarious results.

In the video, the unidentified man seems to be attempting to eavesdrop on Obama and Putin’s conversation, and he’s far from subtle in his attempts. The man looks shifty at best, and continuously eyes the camera as if he’s aware he’s being watched. The addition of The Pink Panther theme song doesn’t help his case, and only makes him seem like a less-than-capable spy.

We can’t overstate just how serious the conversation between President Obama and President Putin likely was — and we can only hope they had a productive and fruitful discussion. It makes sense that someone would be curious to overhear what, exactly, the two said to one another. If recorded, that conversation could likely fetch a hefty sum, which is why many have pointed to the man’s awkward handling of his phone.

Of course, it has yet to be confirmed whether or not this man was actually eavesdropping on the world leaders; or if it was a case of “wrong place, wrong time” awkwardness. As Mother Jones points out, Russia Today also isn’t the most trustworthy of news sources given its history of “propaganda-choked airwaves.” Either way, it’s a pretty hilarious clip, and it’s well worth a watch.
