“The stage is set, the curtain rises,” he says. “We are ready to begin.”

THE GAME IS ON. That’s right, guys, BBC just released a brand new Sherlock trailer. Of course, it’s only a minute and a half long, because BBC loves to tease us, as they proved in July when they released the very first trailer for the 90-minute stand-alone special episode set in Victorian England.

Our fave detectives will be sleuthing in the 19th century in this special, though the reason behind this is not totally clear, and probably won’t ever be. “We never bother to explain why Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are in the modern world in the normal series; why should we bother explaining now that we’re back in Victorian times?” executive producer Steven Moffat told Entertainment Weekly last July.

We’ll have years until we are graced with season four of the show, but TBH, watching this amazing trailer makes us feel just a tiny bit better about that long wait. Filled with a fabulously curly moustache (John’s, naturally), deerstalker caps, horse-drawn carriages, dark alleys, and FABULOUSLY attractive Victorian clothing, this trailer is jam-packed with everything we didn’t even know we needed.

But what really gets us is the dialogue. It seems as though this trailer will be taking a dark turn when John asks Sherlock, “What made you like this?” Sherlock responds, “Oh, Watson. Nothing made me. I made me.”

CHILLS. WE HAVE CHILLS.

Of course, the quip-filled, anger-covering-love relationship between Sherlock and John is still intact when John thrusts a deerstalker at Sherlock and says, “You’re Sherlock Holmes; wear the damn hat.” Hearts bursting.

Unfortunately and fortunately, the trailer ends with “coming soon.” We’d like to think that “soon” means “yesterday,” but then again, as previously mentioned, BBC looooves to tease us. We’re just gonna have to wait until we get a legit date, but until then, we’ll be on the edge of our seats, our hearts a-flutter as we think of Benedict’s voice uttering the line, “Make no mistake, this is a war.”

We don’t want to give anything else away, so check out the full trailer below and prepare to full-out fangirl, because Sherlock.
