Unrequited love: We’ve all experienced it. Whether it be for the cute barista at your local coffee shop, or the girl who borrowed a pen from you that one time in English class, we’ve all fallen for someone who’s totally unattainable. When someone feels out of reach, it can be easy for us to build them up in our heads and put ourselves down in the process — and when we find out they have a significant other, our spiral is swift.
Marian Bull gets the struggle: Her friend took a video of her seeing her high school crush’s new girlfriend for the first time, and it’s probably the most relatable thing we’ve seen all week. In the video, Bull fawns over her former love’s seemingly flawless new boo — light-heartedly putting herself down in the process.
“We don’t look anything alike. It’s like her skin is made of silk and it has little sun rays woven into it,” she says in the video, before conceding, “I’m sure she’s a really nice person.”
“She makes really mediocre watercolor paintings,” she continues, scrolling through her phone. “She’s a model! And I’m just sitting here in my sh*tty apartment. Our heat doesn’t even work. I bet her heat works.”
Old love dies hard, and the pain is real. Bull can’t help but laugh-cry over the whole thing — perhaps surprised that her former unrequited love still holds such a firm grasp on her heart. It’s an unbelievably relatable video for anyone who’s ever stumbled upon an ex or former crush’s new partner on social media and lost themselves in a black hole of emotion and comparison. (Been there.)
“It was my very natural reaction, for better or for worse,” she told Buzzfeed News.
