By now, you probably already know that Renee Zellweger is back as Bridget Jones in the highly anticipated Bridget Jones’s Baby. And you also probably already know that we’re really excited about it. Because, well, duh.
We’ve learned what Bridget has been up to since the last time we saw her back in 2004 in Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason — and it’s kind of a big deal. She’s pregnant! Except she doesn’t exactly know who the father is. Does it belong to Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) or the hot new billionaire Mark Qwant (Patrick Dempsey)? Or both???
But seriously, the baby belongs to someone and we absolutely can’t wait to see the movie to find out who. There’s going to be a mini Bridget Jones, which means there could potentially be more movies forever.
This new discovery in Bridget’s life is sure to bring all sorts of new challenges her way, and that’s exactly why we love her. We get to go on her life journey right along side her.
“This is part of the new challenge, discovering where she is now in her new life,” Zellweger told EW. “She’s a bit more mature and has moved on, as we all have.”
But moved on with who??
Zellweger added that she’s really happy to be back exploring this part of Bridget’s life with her. “But as an actress, it feels like stepping back with an old friend,” she said. “I love this character, I like that she tells stories about what it’s like to be a woman and these really relatable situations at certain times in life. It’s so right to tell a story about Bridget in this stage of her life.”
“I think that’s her essence, really,” Zellweger said of her character’s chaotic life choices. “All of us do things in our personalities that we don’t outgrow.”
OK, so she’s definitely more mature and maybe making better choices, but she’s still the same Bridget Jones we know and love. And she’s pregnant. So there’s that too.
Oh, and did we mention Ed Sheeran makes a cameo in the movie?
So yeah, we’re pretty excited about all of this. You can check out new photos from Bridget Jones’s Baby right here.
Bridget Jones’s Baby is projected to be released September 16, 2016.
