Some of us have been waiting for Hanson to tour again for a while now, and if you’re one of those people, time to get fired up (see what I did there? If you do, you’re a true fan), because Hanson’s 25th anniversary world tour, the Middle Of Everywhere Tour, is kicking off June 1.
Added oldest brother Isaac, who specializes in guitar for the band, “This year is not only about the two decades of music, it’s about celebrating the incredible community of fans who have been with us, singing along year after year.”
The shows, across North American and Europe, will feature a mix of new and old stuff, chronicling the band’s impressive six-studio-album discography (seven if you count their Christmas album Snowed In and let’s be real, who doesn’t?). In some locations, Taylor will even D.J. an after-show dance party, which we can’t even imagine NOT going to.
“TWENTY-FIVE YEARS!?” we hear some of you saying, so let us clarify: “MMMBop” — the hit the guys are still most known for today — premiered 20 years ago this May, as did its breakout album Middle of Nowhere. But these brothers have been a band since 1992, when the youngest member, drummer Zac, was only 6 years old.
Meaning, he’s 31 now. Meaning, even the youngest member of Hanson is not a kid anymore. In fact, the Hanson brothers are the oldest of seven children, and not even their youngest sibling is a kid anymore. Among them, Zac, Taylor, and Isaac have 12 children. Yes, TWELVE, with the most recent mini Hanson, Lucy — whose name is likely a nod to Zac’s solo tune “Lucy” from MoN — being born just last year.
In a nutshell, guys, a lot of time has passed. It’s been two decades since we were introduced to these guys…and if you remember them being cute and talented then but not since, you haven’t seen life.
The tour will coincide with a 2017 album called Middle Of Everywhere — The Greatest Hits, featuring songs from MoN to their latest album Anthem, and even their brand-new single “I Was Born.” Furthermore, the band is planning “a further release” in 2018.
This is amazing news for Hanson fans, who have been craving a new collection of pop-meets-rock-meets-blue-meets-soul tunes from these guys since 2013’s Anthem. They have released snippets here and there and are on track to release a new Christmas album this year, 20 years after Snowed In, but a hits album and tour are just what the doctor ordered for Fansons until the newest album drops.
The guys have been busy, though. Between opening their own record label (whose first album Underneath was, in this writer’s opinion, their best to date), making music, brewing their own beer, starting The Hop Jam Beer and Music Festival based out of their hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma, hosting walks to benefit AIDS/HIV research and help diminish poverty in Africa, and raising big families, we are just thankful Hanson is still making music we can’t get enough of 25 years after they first started doing it.
Ticket pre-sales start tomorrow, on Taylor’s 34th birthday, which this writer did not have to Google. Until you can get your hand on some, have a listen to some of their post-“MMMBop” songs like “Penny and Me,” “Get the Girl Back,”“Lost Without Each Other,” and “Go.” You can thank us later.
