Grace VanderWaal is a 12-year-old girl with a gap between her two front teeth, a dirty blonde bob with bangs, an Instagram account that is run by her mom, and serious talent. Acutally, this kid’s got so much talent that she won the 11th season of America’s Got Talent, and we love hearing her talk about winning the show and her future plans.

VanderWaal wowed the judges and won first place — with $1,000,000 prize and becoming a headlining act of the Las Vegas show as the prize — by playing the ukulele along to a song she wrote. For 12 years old, her voice sounds incredibly mature.

VanderWaal has only been playing the ukulele for the past year!

Where does the inspiration for her lyrics come from?

Despite VanderWaal’s seemingly confident stage presence, the young performer called singing in front of the famous judges “nerve-wracking,” though clearly not stressful enough to impede her strong performance.

But VanderWaal also mentioned that most of her friends don’t even know she sings. Not once has she skipped out on playdates to work with a vocal coach because ,astonishingly, VanderWaal has never even had professional vocal training.

Aside from singing, VanderWaal told Peoplshe likes to read, hang out with her sister, and ride her bike. But now that she’s just won the hit NBC show (becoming the second female to win in the show’s history), things might change. Vanderwaal just signed a record deal with Columbia Records and she might start homeschooling if her singing career picks up.

From the sound of her voice, Vanderwaal might want to put away her lunchbox and get out her suitcase.
