If you’re like most people, you need whatever motivation you can get to complete a workout. Whether it’s an app that pushes you to get fit, a pep talk from a friend or a killer playlist of female empowerment anthems, we all have those moments where a little extra encouragement in the gym is necessary.

Because we want you to ease into your exercise ~flow~ with enthusiasm and the utmost assurance that you absolutely can kick butt during a workout, allow us to pump you up with some pretty amazing songs that make you feel great about yourself when you’re trying to get in shape.

Go ahead and unleash your inner beast with the help of these girl power anthems that will take you and your workout playlist to the next level of fierce.

1 “Confident” — Demi Lovato

What’s wrong with being confident? Absolutely nothing, particularly when you’re working out, and it feels absolutely impossible to move another inch. While Lovato’s song is more about owning your inner freak (a message we wholeheartedly support),  her declaration that, ” I’m boss right now” will challenge you to push past your limits.

2“Fergalicious” — Fergie

This song belongs on EVERY girl’s workout playlist because of these unforgettable lyrics: “My body stay vicious/I be up in the gym/Just workin’ on my fitness.”

Srsly, someone toss us a dumbbell because Fergie Ferg instantly gets us pumped.

3 “Hard” — Rihanna

If you don’t feel like a straight #savage while sweating it out at the gym and blasting Rih Rih’s beast-mode Rated R tune at ridiculous levels, you’re doing it all wrong.

4“Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” — Kelly Clarkson

If those godawful burpees think they’ve left you broken down, that’s kinda sorta true, but NOT FOR LONG, WE TELL YOU.

Like Clarkson says, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, even when your entire body is begging for mercy. #gohardorgohome

5“Bossy” — Kelis

These days Kelis is busy being a boss on all fronts — as a mother and a culinary expert with a cookbook and a food-themed album under her belt — but her 2006 badass girl anthem still goes hard to this day, and will definitely have you feelin’ yourself in and outside of the gym.

6 “The Greatest” — Sia

Sia is basically the queen of empowering songs that make you feel like the most fierce person ever, so several of her songs are workout playlist-worthy. However, with lyrics like “Running out of breath/But I’ve got stamina,” “The Greatest” gets to the nitty-gritty of what it takes to dig deep during a workout.

7 “Love Myself” — Hailee Steinfeld

Steinfeld has some pretty solid advice on fitness, bullying and being a badass overall, plus she’s the face of a female athletic apparel line, so we take her at her word when she sings about putting your body first, and loving yourself so hard ’til it hurts.

8“Power” — Little Mix

This pop group’s anthem reminds us where the real strength lies. ICYDK, it’s within you, and no one can stifle your inner superhero — not even a 30-minute treadmill routine on full incline.

9“I Will Survive” — Gloria Gaynor

Depending on how grueling your workouts are (for us that would be every single one of them), the title of this old school disco groove can be taken quite literally.

When the going gets rough, keep your chin up (along with your heart rate), and know that you’ll emerge from this intense workout sesh stronger than ever.
