Demi Lovato sings "I'm not sober anymore" on surprise single, and the outpouring of fan love is overwhelming
Demi Lovato just released surprise single “Sober,” a ballad that seemingly details her relapse with alcohol. However, it’s unclear if she recently relapsed, if this is an old song she waited to release, or if she’s singing about a former moment in her life. When Lovato announced the single on Instagram on June 21st, 2018, she simply wrote “My truth” next to a clip from the lyric video.
The song serves as an apology to lovers, family, friends, fans, and herself and ends with the promise to get help. Below, a selection of Lovato’s “Sober” lyrics (via Genius.com).
Momma, I’m so sorry, I’m not sober anymore
And daddy, please forgive me for the drinks spilled on the floor
To the ones who never left me
We’ve been down this road before
I’m so sorry, I’m not sober anymore.
The song comes just months after Lovato celebrated her sixth year of sobriety. “Just officially turned 6 years sober. So grateful for another year of joy, health and happiness. It IS possible,” she wrote on Twitter in March of this year.
She has always been open and transparent about her struggle with addiction and admitted that she was using cocaine during most of her 2012 documentary Stay Strong — but told People.com in October 2017 that she was “1000 percent sober” in her follow-up documentary, Simply Complicated.
Since the release of “Sober,” the support she’s received on social media proves her fanbase is loyal and supportive, no matter where life takes her.

Regardless where Lovato is in her journey, she has been praised for her vulnerability and candid ability to speak out about her sobriety in the hope that her truth inspires someone else.
As always, we’re sending love and support her way.
