Hot on the heels of Halloween and the World Series (I still don’t want to talk about it, Boston) comes the best month of the year: November. November is the perfect balance of fall and winter. You get to break out your cozy sweaters, perfect your topknot and eat pumpkin flavored everything. See what I’m saying? To further prove my point, here are 10 reasons November is the best month of the year.

1. Sweater/scarf/hat/boot season is in full swing

You’ve been dying to show off your new boots. You can’t wait to grab a scarf as you run out the door. You’ve felt like sleeping instead of showering and want to wear a winter hat all day and call it fashion (What? I’m joking. I would obviously never do that. … ) Suddenly, one morning you wake up and it’s time to start fully incorporating winter accessories into your wardrobe. Just like that, the weather (and the calendar) has spoken. Getting dressed just got so much easier.

2. The colorful leaves

If you’re fortunate enough to live in a climate where the seasons change, you get to watch the beautiful colors change! If not, you can come visit me, and we’ll go through a stroll in Central Park. If you think that’s weird, here’s a nice photo to look at.

3. It’s Movember

The Handlebar. The Fu Manchu. The Ron Swanson. Mustaches decorate the upper lips of men everywhere come November, all in good fun and for a great cause. In my opinion, the mustache has enjoyed a bit too much time in the sun, but I’m all about come Movember.

4. In some way, shape or form, you get to vote

Presidential elections. Mayoral elections. Senatorial (is that even a word?) elections. Odds are, there’s something to vote for come November. Get out there and exercise your right!

5. A well-loved book-turned-movie franchise usually releases its next installment

You know, like Harry Potter, Twilight and this year, The Hunger Games. Ever heard of them? The festivities include midnight showings, costumes and tears of joy. You can taste the anticipation, and this year, Catching Fire did not disappoint.

6. Thanksgiving

Arguably the greatest thing about November is Thanksgiving. It has the three Fs: family, friends and food. It’s nice to gather ‘round, give thanks for the little (and big) things and stuff your face with deliciousness. Every day should start with a parade and end with a pie.

7. … and Thanksgiving specials of your favorite TV shows

Marshall laying down the law on Slapsgiving. Jerry deflating the Woody Woodpecker balloon. Seth spending Thanksgiving with Summer AND Anna. As much as I love Thanksgiving specials, nobody does Thanksgiving like Friends (‘The One With the Football’ is my favorite).

8. Black Friday

After the feast, it’s time to get your shop on. Even if you aren’t a 2:30am door buster, you can still score some pretty amazing deals later in the day on Friday and through the weekend. Although, maybe fighting through the masses on Black Friday (or this year, on Thanksgiving night? What’s that about? That’s a subject for a different article) would be a great way to work off Thanksgiving dinner.

9. Once Thanksgiving is over, you can decorate for Christmas

Trim the tree! Deck the halls! The moment you swallow your last bite of pumpkin pie, it’s official: you’re allowed to decorate for Christmas. Heck, start when Santa drives by in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, because it’s officially time to get in the Christmas spirit. Your world will soon transform into a winter wonderland of lights!

10. … and finally listen to Christmas music

If you’ve already been doing it inside your earbuds in secret, I judge you. But now, you can let your Christmas freak flag fly! Turn up ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ and blast that radio station that only plays Christmas music. ‘Tis the season!

Now get out there and enjoy November before it’s over!
