While we’re a tiny bit mournful that ABC’s incredible #TGIT lineup is no more due to the fact that Scandal isn’t back on the channel until next year, we still feel blessedt that last night (September 22nd) both Grey’s Anatomy and How To Get Away With Murder both returned to our screens. We were feeling SERIOUSLY deprived of our Shondaland fixes, not to mention the need to see some kickass women on TV, and now we’ve been sated we can rest up a bit (until next week that is).

As a bit of a celebration of two of Shonda Rhimes‘ shows returning to TV, Money decided to share just how much the cast of each of Shonda’s $60 million TV empire were worth and it’s C-R-A-Z-Y!

Grey’s Anatomy

Well, over the 12 years that Grey’s has been on the air, the cast have earned a fair bit it’s safe to say. As Money reports, Chandra Wilson, who plays Dr Bailey, has a net worth of $10 million, whereas James Picket Jr (Dr Webber) and Justin Chambers (Dr Karev) have $3 million and $12 million respectively.

However, things get interesting when you compare the differences between Ellen Pompeo, who plays the titular character Meredith Grey, and Patrick Dempsey, who left the show in 2015. According to the report, Pompeo took home $11.5 million in earnings in 2015, whereas Dempsey earned $12 million. While it’s unsure whether these earnings were directly from the show, it’s safe to say that there’s a *tiny* bit a pay gap here.

Similarly, when you look at each actor’s net worth, Dempsey is worth $60 million while Pompeo $35 million.

Nevertheless, now that Dempsey has left the show, Pompeo is now the highest paid actor on the series, which only seems fair TBH. She *has* been there full time since day one…

Obviously, Scandal hasn’t been on the air as long as Grey’s so it’s understandable that the actors might not have earned as much as their Shondaland companions.

Despite this, things are hardly slim pickings. For example, Kerry Washington (the highest paid person on the show and too right) earns a reported $80,000 per episode of the show, and has a net worth of $12 million. Meanwhile the likes of Joe Morton, who plays Olivia Pope’s evil and murderous father is worth $4 million, as is Tony Goldwyn, i.e. President Fitzgerald Grant.

How To Get Away With Murder

How To Get Away With Murder is only entering into it’s third season, but that doesn’t mean that the cast are short of pocket.

Liza Weil (Bonnie), Alfred Enoch (Wes), the incredible Viola Davis (Annalise Keating) are all said to have a net worth of $3 million. While specific figures aren’t known about how much Davis earns per episode, we hope that, like the other two Shondaland shows, it’s respective to her role.

Given that Shonda Rhimes is the actual queen of all television, we’re pretty sure that all her shows will continue to grow and that even more will appear. Indeed, the prolific writer and producer just launched a new show, The Catch, earlier this year, which has already been optioned for a second season.

Until then, you can catch Grey’s Anatomy and How To Get Away With Murder, Thursdays on ABC.
