The psychedelic trips in Doctor Strange were pretty intense, but now we’ve got a sci-fi film that has immersed itself in the bright colors of a strange world. We’re talking about the new trailer for Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets which is a hippie’s dream basically.
Based on a best-selling French graphic novel, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets looks like the kind of surreal sci-fi trip we’d love to go on in the most recent trailer. Following Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) as they take on an assignment in the city of Alpha, the team encounters mystery and “a dark force.” Let’s take a look at some of the magnificent images in the trailer.
First up, meet Valerian:
And his partner Laureline:
They go on crazy missions that require some…maneuvering to accomplish while “maintaining order throughout the human territories”.
Anyway, the setting is the 28th century and the two head to the city of Alpha, “an ever-expanding metropolis where species from all over the universe have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence and cultures with each other.” Basically, it sounds like an amazing place. And it looks that way too!
The film is directed by Luc Besson who directed The Professional, The Fifth Element, and Lucy. So we can expect Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets to be pretty cool visually. And the trailer is just that.
You’ll want to watch the full trailer to see all of the amazing images from the film:
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets will fly into theaters on July 21st, just in time to help you beat the summer heat by flying to another world. Summer trip to Alpha sounds like a great plan.
