Taraji P. Henson will star in a gender-swapped version of "What Women Want"
Undisputed queen of Fox’s Empire (and also the world) Taraji P. Henson has landed her next film role. And it is incredible. The actress extraordinaire will follow up her highly-praised performance in Hidden Figures with the lead role in a gender-swapped version of What Women Want called What Men Want.
For those not up-to-date on their early 2000s romantic comedies, Nancy Meyers’ What Women Want is about a chauvinistic advertising executive who, after experiencing an electrical shock, is able to literally read women’s minds. It’s a unique film, to say the least.
In What Men Want, Taraji P. Henson will star as a sports agent who’s constantly pushed aside by her male coworkers.
It’s hard to imagine anyone underestimating her, but that’s just movie magic, we guess. In the adaptation of Meyers’ film, the actress will somehow gain the ability to hear what men are thinking. She’ll use this to her advantage at work. Presumably, she’ll use it elsewhere too.
Honestly, it just kind of rules that we’re getting a remake of a rom-com that starred a not-great dude, one that’ll swap the gender and star a woman of color. It’s an encouraging turn of events.
Henson currently stars on Fox’s Empire. And she has action-thriller Proud Mary, in which she plays a hitwoman, in the works. Hollywood, if you’re listening: We’re loving this gender swap, and please cast the ah-mazing Taraji P. Henson in everything, k?
What Men Want will be released on January 11th, 2019. It’ll be here before we know it but honestly, that’s not soon enough!
