The Secret Life of Pets opening on Friday and made over $38.3 million in one day. That’s a lot of money, but it’s not at all surprising — because pets.

Pets had a killer opening day and is on track to make over $97 million in its first weekend. That would officially make it the best start ever for an original (as in not a sequel or remake) animated film — just behind Inside Out at $90.4 million.

On Friday, Finding Dory surpassed Captain America: Civil War to become the top-grossing film of the summer in North America… so far. But Pets will be close behind in no time. And that means animated films are ruling summer! So that’s fun.

The Secret Life of Pets takes a deep dive into the lives of pets after their owners leave the house. It stars the voices of Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, and Kevin Hart (who are all brand new to animation), Jenny Slate, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Dana Carvey, Hannibal Buress, Bobby Moynihan, Steve Coogan and Albert Brooks.

People are flocking to see the film because they obviously really want to know what their pets are up to when they’re gone. If real life is anything like what happens in the film (we can dream), our pets are having the best time ever when we’re not around.
