There's one tiny continuity error in The Last Jedi, and it has to do with Rey and Poe
This pains me to write, because I was really betting on growing up and becoming Mrs. Dameron, but the latest Star Wars movie, The Last Jedi, paints it clear: Rey and Poe are probably our new galactic ship. And listen, it’s fine, it’s fine, I swear. If I can’t be with Resistance Commander Poe Dameron, he should be with the next greatest girl in the galaxy, and that is Rey. It’s fine. I promise. However, there is one tiny issue with Rey and Poe, and it is actually a tiny, tiny continuity error set up in The Force Awakens.
You see, Rey and Poe actually meet in Force Awakens, we just don’t see it happen.
For as long as there have been Star Wars movies, there have been Star Wars novelizations. There’s actually a whole expanded storyline (some if now non-canon) out there about Star Wars, and that includes a book recounting the events of Force Awakens on the off chance you’re like “Nah, let’s not watch the movie again, let’s read about it.” The book goes into a lot more detail about the story, as it obviously can, and it also clues us into a few things — like how Han and Leia don’t know who Rey is (hereby removing them from any fan theories), and also that Kylo immediately feels a connection with Rey, and knows her as “that girl.”
The Force Awakens novel also includes a scene — after Rey returns to the Resistance base following the destruction of Star Killer Base — where she meets the dashing, hotshot X-Wing pilot. It’s also a HELLA MEET CUTE. As the book reads:
This is almost word for word what happens in Last Jedi, including the “I know,” Poe replies (short pause to realize that Poe just said “I know,” to Rey, only the most romantic two words in the entire galaxy). Considering that the book has already established that they’ve met, it’s a little bit awkward for them to meet again. However, like I said, we don’t see it happen on-screen in the first movie; we only see it happen here. Maybe they met and were just so overcome with the other’s beauty they forgot…?
It’s completely plausible that this moment in Last Jedi is to serve as their first meeting, but TBH I have spent the last two years knowing that Rey and Poe had already met, and she LIKES HIS FACE. (SAME REY, SAME). So whatever we’re calling their true ~official~ meeting is fine, I guess, because at the end of the day I’m still not going to be Mrs. Dameron.
