“The Princess Diaries 3” officially has a script, and we are so ready to return to Genovia

Disney

All those Princess Diaries fans out there can finally rejoice! Well, sort of. Apparently, there is a script in the works for The Princess Diaries 3. And the cast hasn’t stopped talking about their love of this series, either. Heather Matarazzo (Lilly Moscovitz, for those who have lived a sad, unknowing life) has her own podcast named after the show Lilly did in school. Anne Hathaway even shared a wonderful message on the anniversary of the movie last year.

Basically, everyone loves Princess Mia. So what has been the hold up? Why no the Princess Diaries 3? After all, the last time we saw Princess Mia was back in 2004.

And that is absolutely too long to go without having Mia Thermopolis in our lives.

Now there are reports that Mia is coming back, but what does that mean for the rest of the cast? Or really, what does that mean for the storyline?

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Meg Cabot (the author of the books the movies are based on) expressed some insight into a possible third installment. She confirmed that a script exists, and that there is interest in making a third movie as a tribute to Garry Marshall, who directed the first two films and sadly passed away in 2016.

“I would love to sit and talk about [it], but I can’t,” she added. “I’m not allowed.”

So does Meg know something the rest of us don’t? Does she know whether or not they are for sure working on the third Princess Diaries? Either way, all this news is making us excited for what’s to come for Mia, Lilly, Queen Clarisse, and maybe even Nicholas.

Because after all, the way the second film left off set us up for what the third movie could be. Nicholas and Mia in love and married, but the country needs an heir? Sounds like a movie any Princess Diaries fan would love to see! So hopefully, we get more and more information until we finally get to see Mia once more!
