Sometimes, we gotta learn to move on. While this may be tough for some of you to hear (but, it’s probably also pretty obvious),  Star Wars will eventually move completely away from the OG characters. So make sure to cherish those Luke/Leia/Han scenes even more than you were before!

As we celebrate the fairly recent relaunch of the Star Wars franchise, we also have to accept the fact that the original characters can’t remain central to the films forever. Gary Whitta, the screenwriter of Rogue One, makes a pretty good argument to ComingSoon that Lucasfilm has already made great strides to move towards a new generation of Star Wars characters.

Even in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it’s pretty obvious that Rey, Finn, and Poe are the main characters — Luke, Leia, and Han being relegated to (important) but mostly supporting characters. So does that mean no more Jedi? Probably not, but Whitta thinks that we’ll be seeing a different type of Star Wars film in the future.

Honestly, as long as we still have new Star Wars films in 20 years, we’ll probably be happy! And we live in a different time so why not explore new types of Star Wars films?!
