Apart from the amazing performances of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, one of the things that made Titanic so memorable was Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.” Well, apparently, “My Heart Will Go On” was almost cut from the movie!

One of the film’s producers, Sherry Lansing, shared the story in a revealing new Hollywood tell-all, Leading Lady: Sherry Lansing and the Making of a Hollywood Groundbreaker. Lansing was working with the studios at the time, and gave James Cameron a very specific note after seeing an early cut of the film.

And we’ve gotta say, while it’s true the song might be a teensy bit corny…Cameron was correct. It was a winner, and HAD to be in the movie.

Because not only did this song become such a crucial part of this film by heightening the emotional experience (AKA making us cry bucketloads), but it became one of the best-selling singles ever — and Celine Dion’s biggest hit to date. In fact, we should just enjoy it right now.

IT STILL TUGS ON OUR HEARTSTRINGS.

Epic in every way, Titanic is still one of the highest grossing films in history. And we’re going to go celebrate that right now by digging into our DVD collection (come on, you probably own it too) and reliving the romance.
