Remember the 1996 classic adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Matilda? We were absolutely smitten with the small, quiet girl who loved to read and was a million times nicer than her unpleasant family. She made us dream of ways that we could play tricks on the people in our lives that annoy us, too, but we never quite had the guts.

One of the most iconic moments was with Matilda’s schoolmate Lavender who put a newt in the Trunchbull’s water.

Lavender had WAY more guts than we could ever have, because as soon as she put in the newt, the Trunchbull knew who did it.

And it was great, because Lavender usually looked so sweet and innocent.

Lavender was played by Kiami Davael in the movie, but since it’s been 20 years, Kiami has definitely grown up.

Kiami still has those beautiful eyes, but she has grown into a woman who is totally fabulous.

Her selfie game is absolutely on point. Since Matilda, Kiami has appeared in Moesha, In the House and The Steve Harvey Show.

She has some serious hair game, and she knows how to rock a bun.

Kiami also has an amazing voice.

She did learn one major thing from Matilda, though.

Pigtails can be very dangerous.
