Mark Ruffalo, the dashing leading actor of silver screens and fantasies, plays one of the most iconic characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Need we remind you? The Incredible Hulk. You’ll be able to see Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk in multiple upcoming Marvel filmsThor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, the yet to be titled Avengers 4. But we won’t lie. We were sorta hoping for a solo movie about the Hulk. But, recently, we were absolutely heartbroken to hear that it’s probably never going to happen. And who should tell us this dreadful news but the Hulk himself.

Mark Ruffalo, along with a slew of awesome MCU actors, attended the Disney D23 Expo this weekend to unveil the exclusive trailer for their upcoming film, Avengers: Infinity War. (The trailer received deafening applause, by the way. Keep that in the back of your mind in case you’re racking your noggin for a film to watch come May 2018.)

But when Variety asked the actor about a potential spin-off for the Hulk, things didn’t go so well.

Mark, who was standing next to fellow actor, Don Cheadle, at the time, had this to say to the reporter:

Let us repeat: Mark said, “I just want to make one thing perfectly clear today. A stand alone movie will never happen.” (Ugh, no!) Don Cheadle tries to make light of the situation by adding, “And with you [Mark Ruffalo] as the new hulk, it would be terrible… You’re too old now to play the Hulk. Let’s be honest… You’re kinda too old now. Let’s be real…” Aw, what are good friends for?

Variety also talked to Kevin Feige who pretty much confirmed the bad Hulk news.

Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, said it a little more nicely — but yeah, they pretty much crushed our dreams.

Oh well, so much for that. On the bright side: At least, we have three Marvel films to look forward to with the Hulk. Maybe someone will extract the clips and build a stand-alone film from that?
