Lin-Manuel Miranda really wants to play this creepy "Spiderman" villain
Every so often, a hero comes along and reminds us that we can be whatever we want. Right now that person is Lin-Manuel Miranda; father, husband, Hamilton star and creator, Disney songwriter and …Spiderman villain? The star of the future Mary Poppins Returns (which he is currently filming in London alongside Emily Blunt right now) says he has his heart set on playing one not-so-famous red and black bad guy, according to Meet the Movie Press podcast:
“If Disney and Marvel were looking at doing a Maximum Carnage movie or bringing Carnage in as a character, he wants to be Carnage. Genuinely as a fan, he would love to play Carnage. That’s a goal of [Miranda’s].”
It’s not too far off from being a realistic venture, seeing as Miranda is sitting pretty snuggly in Disney’s mouse-shaped pocket at the moment. Introducing Carnage into the Spiderman universe would mean bringing back Venom (we see you, Topher Grace! We literally can’t forget your take on Venom …even if we tried), a villain who has appeared on the big screen to mixed reviews and little appreciation. Ah, well. It doesn’t hurt to dream, and if anyone can sway Hollywood execs to invent a new Spiderman storyline specifically in his favor, it’s effin’ Hamilton himself. 2016 has been his year, and the man gets what he wants.
