Just in time for the Academy Awards, someone reimagined La La Land as a David Lynch thriller, and it is truly horrifying.

For those of you not acquainted with Lynch, he’s the brains behind spooky series like Twin Peaks. The Lynchian recut starts innocuously enough: with Ryan Gosling humming “City Of Stars” on the Santa Monica boardwalk. However, in true Lynch fashion, suddenly the music changes and it takes a dark turn.

The love story suddenly transforms into a stalker situation, with a hesitant Emma Stone avoiding Gosling’s advances. In addition to the creepy music, it’s superimposed with statements like “in a town where nothing is real” and “nothing is what it seems.”

Trés Lynch. Check out the full video here, originally shared by CineFix, Mashable’s YouTube channel.

La La Land is nominated for a whooping 12 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. While the film was largely lauded, not everyone has been so excited about it. SNL even had a sketch featuring Aziz Ansari as a La La Land defector.

Whether you enjoyed La La Land or not, we can all agree this recut is pretty brilliant. And if you want another fun supercut, check out Sara Preciado’s video of the films that inspired La La Land. You’ll see how classic moments from movies like Grease helped form Gosling and Stone’s Los Angeles world.

Can’t wait to see what accolades La La Land brings in tonight!
