Every time a Batman movie is made, those behind the scenes have a huge task: Deciding the film’s villain(s). Batman’s cache of bad guys are as iconic as the Dark Knight himself; characters like the Joker, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy (to name just a few) are legends in and of themselves.

Today, the newest Batman himself, Ben Affleck, posted a video to Twitter featuring one of the potential bad guys for the upcoming standalone Batman film: Deathstroke, a mercenary and assassin.

In the short clip, Deathstroke simply walks toward the camera in a menacing fashion before pausing and looking side to side very slowly. This is basically a classic “baddie’s first appearance in this film,” shot.

While fans initially just thought that Deathstroke would make a short appearance in the new Batman film, which Affleck helms as both director and star, The Wrap reports that Deathstroke will in fact be the movie’s main antagonist.

Deathstroke, who was created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez, first appeared in 1980 in in The New Teen Titans #2. He was also featured on Season 2 of the CW’s Arrow.

In fact, when fans asked Arrow’s creator, Marc Guggenheim, if Deathstroke (aka, Slade Wilson), would return to the show, he gave a major hint that he’d be making the jump from the small screen to the BIG. Said Guggenheim, “The character of Slade Wilson is currently tied up in another DC project,” tipping fans off that he would probably appear in the upcoming roster of DC films. However, it wasn’t clear whether he would have a large role until today.

It sounds like  he’ll likely be a fantastic antagonist for Affleck’s Batman in the upcoming film — and we can’t wait to see him in action.
