This week, we got so many details about the upcoming Mary Poppins sequel, Mary Poppins Returns. But, one detail in particular has us a little crushed — Dame Julie Andrews, Queen of Genovia and our OG beloved nanny, will NOT be making an appearance in the upcoming film. After passing the umbrella and magical suitcase to Emily Blunt, Andrews decided not to make a cameo in the film, and her reasoning is very adorable.

Director Rob Marshall spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming film and revealed that Andrews decided against having a cameo in the film, as a sign of respect for Blunt.

Marshall revealed to EW that Andrews was incredibly supportive of Blunt’s casting as the iconic nanny, saying that when Andrews learned of Blunt’s casting, she threw her hands in the air and said, “Yes!” He also said that Andrews’ support of the sequel was something the cast and crew thought about every day on set.

While we’re gutted we won’t see Andrews pop up in Mary Poppins returns, we can’t wait to see Dick Van Dyke’s cameo in the film — which arrives by way of umbrella — on Christmas 2018.
