We can always count on Hollywood to throw out zany ideas. But this time, they might have gone a liiiiittle too far. There’s going to be a Hugh Hefner biopic starring Jared Leto and directed by Brett Ratner, according to The Hollywood Reporter. And, like, hello, movie gods? Are you there? It’s us, Margaret. What are you thinking?

They’re probably thinking that piling this many controversies into one film is likely to get people to go see it. Which, fair. Because we’re definitely curious, but we have some concerns.

We don’t know a ton about the content of the film yet, except for the fact that it will be about Playboy founder Hugh Hefner’s life. But we do know that this “dream team” (ahem…) is a bit of a passion project for those involved, which is always a good sign.

On casting Leto, Ratner said:

There’s definitely a lot to unpack when it comes to the life of the late Hugh Hefner. He’s been an American pop culture icon for decades, and with that, comes a long list of both accolades and criticisms that are definitely good fodder for a film.

Behind the scenes, Ratner’s reputation isn’t exactly progressive, and Leto has his own dubious background. Pair that with Hugh Hefner’s controversial life, and we’ve definitely got a recipe for something (?). And we have to admit, love it or hate it, we’re at least curious to see how this turns out.
