The actor behind Cornelius Fudge in "Harry Potter" has died
Hardy was an acclaimed stage and screen actor.
In addition to his part in Harry Potter, the British talent was also known for his role as veterinarian Siegfried Farnon on the TV series All Creatures Great and Small. He also appeared as British Prime Minister Winston Churchill on multiple occasions, like in Winston Churchill: The Wilderness Years, War and Remembrance, and Churchill: 100 Days that Saved Britain.
His family added in a statement that Hardy was “a meticulous linguist, a fine artist, a lover of music, and a champion of literature, as well a highly respected historian, and a leading specialist on the longbow.”
Members from the Harry Potter community responded to the sad news on Twitter.
J.K. Rowling wrote, “So very sad to hear about Robert Hardy. He was such a talented actor and everybody who worked with him on Potter loved him.”
And the Harry Potter Film Twitter account posted, “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Robert Hardy, who played Minister for Magic, Cornelius Fudge. He will be greatly missed.”
Cast members and fans also posted about Hardy’s passing, many of whom raised their wands in remembrance — and asked others to do the same.
We will miss Hardy dearly, and our thoughts are with his family.
