Let’s be real, the women on Game of Thrones are all insanely cool. From Arya Stark’s fearlessness to Cersei’s cunning, we can’t get enough. But one woman stands out as especially tough, and we’re about to see even more of her. After roles in the Star Wars and Hunger Games franchises, Gwendoline Christie will appear in a new young adult book adaptation called The Darkest Minds.
We know her best as Brienne of Tarth, the strong and fiercely loyal character who always keeps her promises. In The Darkest Minds, Christie will play an intense bounty hunter who takes pleasure in her work (so maybe not that different from her role as Brienne).
The plot? A group of teens develops superpowers after a disease kills 98% of America’s children. They go to internment camps, where they try to escape. And Christie tries to hunt down the fugitive teens. As much as we love seeing the loyal and ultimately compassionate Brienne, we cannot wait to see Christie go full-on villain.
So far, Mandy Moore and Amandla Stenberg are just two of the incredible actresses signed on to the dystopian film. And Jennifer Yuh Nelson will direct the picture. She is the first woman to solely direct an animated feature from a major Hollywood studio, 2011’s Kung Fu Panda 2.
Meanwhile, we’ll (sort of) get to see Christie in Star Wars: The Last Jedi as stormtrooper Captain Phasma. And lest we forget, Game of Thrones returns to our screens in July. BRB, marking July 16th on our calendars.
