It’s impossible to imagine Wonder Woman starring anyone besides the incredible, badass, superstar that is Gal Gadot. But there was actually a period — not so long ago — that Gadot almost decided to quit the business altogether. And her reasoning had something to do with Imperator Furiosa.

Let us explain.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter’s “Awards Chatter” podcast, Gadot said that for awhile, she kept getting *this* close to nabbing acting roles, and kept losing out to bigger names. One of those roles was Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road, and Gadot ultimately lost out to Charlize Theron.

Can we just pause and wrap our minds around Gadot playing Furiosa? We know she can play a believable car aficionado because, hello, Fast and the Furious. So yeah, we’re already picturing her with Furiosa’s signature bald head and steely stare.

The string of rejections started to, understandably, get to Gadot.

Thankfully, she nabbed her role as Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (and, of course, Wonder Woman). Oh, and don’t worry. There’s no hard feelings between herself and Theron.

“Charlize, I love,” she added. “It’s funny, because we have Patty Jenkins in common.” How so? Jenkins directed Gadot in Wonder Woman and Theron in Monster.

So, it seems like everything worked out the way it should. Theron is still taking on badass, action roles (most recently in Atomic Blonde). And we’ll get to see Gadot as Diana Prince again when the Wonder Woman sequel hits theaters in December 2019.

So, basically, we’re happy campers all around.
