"Fifty Shades Darker" just beat "Star Wars" at this surprising record
We’ve had a lot of time to think about the Fifty Shades Darker trailer since it was released yesterday at 8 AM PST, but apparently people have been doing more than just thinking about the trailer. Apparently people have been watching it. Over and over again. A lot.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fifty Shades Darker has dethroned Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the most watched trailer, in less than 24 hours. Fifty Shades Darker has been watched a whopping 114 million views in just A DAY.
Yeah, Rey, we’re perplexed by this one, too.
39.4 million views came from North America, but the rest came from over thirty-two different countries, including the U.K., Mexico, and France which racked up an astounding 74.6 million views.
The Force Awakens was the previous most-watched-trailer-in-24-hours record holder, hitting 112 million views overnight — which means the Fifty Shades of Grey sequel beat it out by a solid two million views. That’s not nothing, folks.
Fifty Shades Darker opens February 10th, 2017, and we’re just hoping that people calm down between now and then a little bit before buying 114 million tickets each. Movie tickets are expensive, guys. We think everybody involved needs to take a deep breath.
Although, y’know. Jamie Dornan. We can’t reeeeally blame you…
