Despite the fact that Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has yet to hit theaters (November 18 can’t come soon enough), a sequel is already in the works — and we’re ready. Warner Bros. Pictures confirmed that the second film in this planned trilogy, which is currently called Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2, will be written by J.K. Rowling and directed by veteran Harry Potter director David Yates.

The movie is set to come out in 2018.

Unlike the Harry Potter films, which were obviously based on a book series, Fantastic Beasts  is simply inspired by the book of the same name. That means that we actually have no idea what will happen in the sequel, especially considering we have no clue what happens in the original since it’s not yet in theaters.

And also considering J.K. Rowling is writing the sequel and has already created a massively successful series of books, movies, a play, and even theme parks… it’s safe to say this screenplay is in good hands.

It will continue to follow the adventures of the eccentric Newt Scamander and (though he hasn’t yet officially confirmed but let’s be honest here) who will for sure be perfectly portrayed again by Eddie Redmayne. Variety reported that Warner Bros’ only details about the storyline itself were issued in a recent statement.

They said that the sequel “moves deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world, where Newt and our other heroes have to decide on their allegiances.”

It sounds awesome. Now, right after we finish anxiously anticipating the first film in November, we can begin a new round of anxious anticipation for the next one right as the credits begin to roll.
